Astra, priced to the penny
Astra Pro Pricing in 2026: Every Plan, Every Renewal, and the Real Bill
The Astra pricing page shows six prices before you scroll, and the one in large type is not the one you will pay in year two. Here is every plan, what renews at what, and what an Astra site actually costs once the plugins arrive.

The short answer
As of October 2026, Astra Pro on its own costs $69 a year or $249 once, for up to 3 sites. The AI bundles start at $99, $199 and $279 and renew at $149, $299 and $429. Every plan has a 14-day refund. A one-site business usually needs only the $69 addon, or nothing.

Six price tags, one theme underneath
Brainstorm Force sells Astra two ways. There is the plain addon, which is the Astra Pro plugin and support. Then there are three bundles with "+ AI" in the name, which add the ZipWP site generator, hosted WordPress sites and, on the bigger tiers, Spectra Pro, Ultimate Addons for Elementor and SureForms. Every bundle starts at an introductory price. The free theme underneath is the same in all of them, and our Astra review covers what it does. This page is about what it costs.
| First payment | Renews at | Lifetime option | Sites | What you get | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Astra (free) | $0 | Nothing to renew | Not applicable | Unlimited | The theme, header and footer builder, Customizer layout, basic WooCommerce controls |
| Astra Pro, addon only | $69 a year | $69 a year | $249 once (list $349) | Up to 3 | Astra Pro plugin and premium support. No AI, hosting or domain |
| Astra Pro + AI | $99 first year | $149 a year | $279 once (list $449) | Up to 3 | Astra Pro, ZipWP AI for 3 years, 1 hosted site (10 GB) for 3 years, a domain for 1 year |
| Essential Toolkit + AI | $199 first year | $299 a year | $549 once (list $899) | Up to 10 | Adds Spectra Pro, Ultimate Addons for Elementor, premium starter templates, 5 blueprint and 5 sandbox sites, 2 hosted sites (20 GB) |
| Business Toolkit + AI | $279 first year | $429 a year | $799 once (list $1,299) | Up to 1,000 | Adds SureForms Agency, AI Site Planner, 24/7 VIP support, 20 blueprint and 20 sandbox sites, 5 hosted sites (75 GB) |
Two details hide in the fine print. The pricing FAQ says every site where Astra is activated counts toward the limit, live, staging, local or development. A freelancer with three client sites and a staging copy of each has already used six activations, which means the 3-site plans are smaller than they look. And SureForms Agency, which the page values at $229 a year, belongs only to the Business Toolkit, not to Essential.
The renewal letter, the refund window and the hosted-site catch
The bundles are honest about one thing: a footnote says the intro pricing is special and "all renewals are at full price." The FAQ adds that your renewal rate is fixed when you buy and will not rise beyond the listed figures. So budget on $149, $299 or $429, not on the number in large type. The addon is the exception. It costs $69 in year one and $69 in year two, with no introductory discount to wear off.
- Refunds: 14 days from purchase, in full, with no questions asked, on every plan. Two weeks is short, so build on a test site the day you pay.
- Upgrades: you can move up a tier, or switch from annual to lifetime, and pay only the difference. Buying small first costs you nothing if you outgrow it.
- Lapsing: your sites keep running. You lose updates, new premium templates, support and the AI tools. Running an old Astra Pro without updates is how a license that will not activate turns into a security problem.
- The hosted site: if you let a bundle lapse and your live site sits on the included ZipWP hosting, it goes offline. The FAQ gives you 7 days of access to export, then a 3-day grace period before deletion.
- The free domain: it is free for year one only. From year two the vendor says renewal typically runs $10 to $200 a year, depending on the extension.
The lifetime bundles carry the same asterisk. The plugins are yours for good, but the AI platform and hosting run for 3 years and then renew annually at a price shown at checkout, not on the pricing page. A lifetime bundle bought for its hosting is a three-year bundle with a long tail.
How far the free theme gets a business before it asks for money
Further than the upsell screens suggest. The free theme has a drag-and-drop header and footer builder with separate desktop, tablet and mobile layouts, a transparent header, global colors and typography, container layouts, and WooCommerce basics: a header cart dropdown, shop column control, product structure and sale badges. Demo sites import through the free Starter Templates plugin. A five-page service business can launch on that and pay Brainstorm Force nothing.
Free Astra is enough when
- One header and one footer serve every page
- Your builder already handles layouts, so Astra only frames them
- The store sells a handful of products with a standard checkout
- Inline CSS from the Customizer does not bother your speed test
The $69 addon earns its keep when
- You need different headers for different pages, or custom 404s and hooks
- A sticky header or mega menu is part of the design
- The shop wants quick view, AJAX add to cart or a 2-step checkout
- You want the CSS File Generation option the comparison lists under Pro
The speed side of that last row is explained in Astra speed settings. If you have not decided on a builder yet, read Astra with Elementor and Astra with Gutenberg before choosing a bundle, because the bundle you need depends on it.
Year one and year three on a real Astra site
Nobody runs Astra alone. Take a typical one-location service business: Astra Pro for the sticky header, Elementor for page layouts, a caching plugin, a form plugin that can send leads to a CRM, an SEO plugin, backups and hosting. We checked two plugin prices on the vendors' own pricing pages today. The others we name by category, because prices change and we will not guess.
| Year one | Total after three years | Note | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Astra Pro, addon only | $69 | $207 | Same price every year |
| WP Rocket, Single | $59.95 | $179.85 | 1 website, per wp-rocket.me |
| Gravity Forms, Basic | $59 | $177 | 1 site, per gravityforms.com |
| Verified subtotal | $187.95 | $563.85 | Before the lines below |
| Elementor Pro | Not in any Astra plan | Renews yearly | The toolkits include Ultimate Addons, which needs only free Elementor |
| SEO, backups, security | Free tiers exist | Paid tiers renew | Category only; we did not price these |
| Hosting and domain | Your host's rate | Recurring | Priced by your host; not counted here |
So the theme is the cheap part. The verified licenses alone run past $560 by the end of year three, before the builder, the host, or anyone's time. That time is the line most owners leave off: each license is another updater, another settings screen and another vendor whose release can collide with Astra's, as several 4.13 updates did. The stack view of this, row by row, is on Astra vs Next.js.
Lifetime or yearly: when each Astra license pays off
Lifetime pricing is a bet that you will still use the product after the break-even year. Here are the break-even points, assuming renewals stay at the listed figures, which the FAQ says they will.
| Annual, three-year total | Lifetime | Lifetime is cheaper from | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Astra Pro, addon only | $207 | $249 | Year four |
| Astra Pro + AI | $397 | $279 | Year three |
| Essential Toolkit + AI | $797 | $549 | Year three |
| Business Toolkit + AI | $1,137 | $799 | Year three |
The bundles reward lifetime buyers faster because their renewal prices jump. The plain addon rewards patience: four years of use before the lifetime license wins. Remember what lifetime does not cover. The ZipWP hosting and AI expire after three years on every plan, so a lifetime bundle bought mostly for hosting is really a three-year bundle. And lifetime is only as long as Brainstorm Force keeps developing Astra Pro, which is likely but not a promise you can enforce.
Five ways to stop overpaying for Astra
- 1.Start free and buy Pro when a feature forces you to. Write down the one setting you are missing. If you cannot name it, you do not need Pro yet.
- 2.Pick the addon over Pro + AI if you already have hosting. Both cover 3 sites. Pro + AI costs $80 more each year from year two, for AI tools and a hosted site you may never use.
- 3.Count staging sites before choosing a tier. Activations on staging and local copies use up the limit. Agencies on 3-site plans hit the wall early and upgrade mid-year.
- 4.Upgrade instead of rebuying. Moving up a tier or to lifetime costs only the difference, so start on the smallest plan that works.
- 5.Audit the plugins that came with the bundle. If Spectra Pro, Ultimate Addons and SureForms are all active but only one is used, deactivate the rest. Each one loads code and asks for updates.
If an update has already broken something and you are paying in hours rather than dollars, the Astra repair hub and Astra layout broken after update are the fastest routes back. For ongoing work on an Astra site, our Astra developer service handles child themes, hooks and Site Builder layouts.
What the same three years of money buys outside WordPress
Add up three years of Astra, the builder, the plugins and the managed hosting a heavier stack needs, and you have a real budget. It is worth asking what else it could buy. A custom Next.js site costs more up front, often much more than a theme and a weekend. What it removes is the renewal column. There is no theme license, no builder license and no caching plugin, because pages are prerendered and served from a CDN, and the dependencies are pinned and tested before they ship.
Every site we build comes with Athena CMS: plain fields, a real preview and every version kept, with built-in e-commerce and Stripe-billed memberships for the jobs WordPress hands to plugins. Its AI agents do the chores those plugins only nag about. Argus watches for broken links, failing forms and expiring certificates. Aegis checks daily for intrusions. Iris writes search titles and descriptions.
Whether that trade makes sense depends on how long you keep a site and what it earns. WordPress vs Next.js cost lays out the five-year shape, and what a WordPress to Next.js move costs explains how a migration is quoted. The Astra-specific route, including what happens to Elementor and Spectra content, is in Astra to Next.js. If you want to compare themes first, Astra vs Kadence and Astra vs GeneratePress put the license terms side by side, and the WordPress themes hub prices every theme we track.
Questions people ask before they call
As of October 2026, the Astra Pro addon on its own costs $69 a year for up to 3 websites, and the price does not change at renewal. Astra Pro + AI costs $99 in year one and $149 a year after that. Both include the same Astra Pro plugin; the AI plan adds ZipWP, one hosted site and a first-year domain.
For the addon, the $249 lifetime license beats $69 a year only from year four. For the AI bundles, lifetime wins in year three, because their renewals cost more than the first year. The catch: lifetime covers the plugins, while the bundled AI tools and hosting still expire after three years and then renew annually.
The bundles do. Astra Pro + AI renews at $149, Essential Toolkit + AI at $299 and Business Toolkit + AI at $429, against first-year prices of $99, $199 and $279. The pricing FAQ says your renewal rate is fixed at purchase and will not rise further. The $69 addon renews at $69.
Yes. The pricing FAQ says every site where Astra is activated counts, including staging, local and development copies. On a 3-site plan, one live site with a staging copy uses two activations. Agencies should count every environment before picking a tier, or plan to upgrade by paying the difference.
Yes, within 14 days of purchase, in full, on every plan, as of October 2026. That is a short window, so install Pro on a test site right away and check the features you bought it for. If you need help deciding, our free site audit looks at what your current site actually uses.
