Kadence for online stores
Kadence WooCommerce: Free Store Settings, Shop Kit and the 2026 Plans
Kadence used to be a free theme with a shop plugin you bought elsewhere. Since May 2026 it is the front door to a Liquid Web suite: theme, Shop Kit, security, memberships and backups on one invoice. Here is what each layer does for a WooCommerce store, and what it asks of you in return.

The short answer
The free Kadence theme sets WooCommerce layouts under Customizer > WooCommerce: product page layout, product elements, catalog columns, store notice, checkout fields and the account page. Shop Kit, included in the $299 Pro and $499 Elite plans, adds galleries, multi-step checkout, swatches, quickview, wishlists and bundles. Keep Shop Kit at 3.0.6.1 or later.

Customizer > WooCommerce: the free half of the deal
Kadence gives a store more layout control for free than most themes do, and it keeps all of it in one place. Install WooCommerce and a WooCommerce panel appears in the Customizer with tabs for the product page, the catalog, the store notice, product images, checkout and the account area. The vendor's docs, now hosted at docs.nexcess.com, name every setting below.
- Single product: Above Content Layout (breadcrumbs, nothing or an extra title area), Product Layout (normal, narrow, fullwidth, left or right sidebar), boxed or unboxed Content Style, and Product Elements toggles for category, title, rating, price, excerpt, add to cart, extras, payments, meta and share.
- Buying controls: Use Custom Quantity Plus and Minus, Product Variation Display (horizontal or vertical), Tab Style and Related Products Columns. The payments element is a decorative row of card icons, not a gateway.
- Product catalog: Shop Page display (products, categories or both), Products Per Row, Rows Per Page, Mobile Columns Layout, Align Button at Bottom and an Off Canvas Widget Area for filters.
- Store notice: Enable Store Notice, with placement that hangs over the top, sits above the content or pins to the bottom, plus an option to drop the dismiss button.
- Checkout and account: field settings for company, address line 2 and phone, links to your privacy and terms pages, and a My Account layout with navigation left, above or right and the customer's name and avatar.
That covers a clean catalog and a tidy product page without spending a dollar. What it does not include is behavior: no quickview, no swatches, no wishlist, no gallery beyond WooCommerce's own. Those are where Kadence starts selling. The theme as a whole is assessed in our Kadence review.
Shop Kit: the Iconic plugins under a new roof
In May 2026 Liquid Web folded several brands into Kadence. Iconic, a long-running maker of WooCommerce plugins, became Kadence Shop Kit. Liquid Web's Kadence page lists eighteen pieces, from ShopKit Core to Product Badges and Size Charts. The ones most stores reach for first are below, with the job each one replaces.
| What it does | What you would otherwise install | |
|---|---|---|
| WooThumbs | Product gallery with video and per-variation images | A gallery or product video plugin |
| Flux Checkout | Multi-step checkout | A checkout redesign plugin or a funnel builder |
| Attribute Swatches | Color, image and button choices instead of dropdowns | A variation swatch plugin |
| Quickview and Wishlist for WooCommerce | Preview from the grid; saved products | Two separate plugins, usually from two vendors |
| Bundled Products and Linked Variations | Sell sets; link related products as one choice | A bundles extension |
| WooCommerce Delivery Slots | Customers pick a delivery date and time | A delivery scheduling extension |
| Product Configurator | Buyers build a product from options and see it change | Custom development |
| Advanced Product Reviews, Account Pages, Sales Booster | Richer reviews, extra My Account pages, cross-sell prompts | Three more plugins |
There is a smaller paid layer too. Kadence Theme Kit Pro, the premium theme add-on, brings WooCommerce add-ons that the docs list as Add To Cart Behavior (Show the Cart Popup on Add To Cart, and Single Product Ajax Add To Cart) and a configurable off-canvas sidebar for filters. Confirm which plan includes it before you buy, because the 2026 plan pages describe features rather than plugin names.
Which 2026 Kadence plan actually includes a store
Kadence moved from add-ons and bundles to three yearly tiers. For a store owner, the important line is that Shop Kit starts at Pro. As of October 2026:
| Essentials | Pro | Elite | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price | $99 per year | $299 per year | $499 per year |
| Theme, blocks, header builder | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Shop Kit for WooCommerce | No | Yes | Yes |
| Memberships and subscriptions | No | Yes | Yes |
| Firewall, 2FA, virtual patching | No | Yes | Yes |
| Daily backups, one-click restore | No | Yes | Yes |
| Popups, sale banners, A/B testing | No | No | Yes |
| Built-in email delivery | No | No | 1,000 emails a month |
The footnote says plans are priced per site, and the pricing page does not state how many sites each covers, so ask before you plan a second store. Existing customers keep legacy pricing while subscribed, but if the subscription lapses you buy a new plan to get access back. If you stop renewing, the products keep working without updates or support, which for a plugin that touches checkout is not a comfortable state. Refunds are available for 30 days. The full breakdown is in Kadence pricing.
CVE-2026-32550: the Shop Kit SQL injection and the five-minute check
In August 2026 Patchstack published a high-priority SQL injection advisory for Kadence Shop Kit 3.0.6 and earlier, tracked as CVE-2026-32550 with a CVSS score of 8.5. The fix shipped in 3.0.6.1. Patchstack lists the required privilege as Subscriber, the lowest logged-in level, which is roughly what every customer account on a store has. A shop that lets buyers register is handing out exactly that access.
The awkward part was licensing. On the wordpress.org forum, holders of legacy licenses asked how to get the update and were pointed to Liquid Web's software support. If your license is in limbo after the rebrand, sort that out before the next advisory, not during it.
- 1
Read the version number
Plugins > Installed Plugins, find Kadence Shop Kit. Anything at 3.0.6 or lower needs the update.
- 2
Update on staging, then live
Update to 3.0.6.1 or later, place a test order through Flux Checkout if you use it, then repeat on the live store.
- 3
Look for strangers
Check Users for administrator accounts you did not create, and recent orders or settings changes nobody remembers making.
- 4
Fix the license path
If the update did not appear, open a ticket with Liquid Web software support and ask which account now holds your license.
- 5
Get help if anything looks off
An injection flaw can read the database. If you find signs of misuse, treat it as a breach and call in malware removal and security.
What still comes from outside Kadence
Even the Elite plan does not make Kadence a complete store. These jobs stay with WooCommerce, its extensions or other services:
- Payment gateways. One plugin per provider, each with its own updates.
- Tax and shipping rates. WooCommerce core for simple rules; extensions or services for live carrier rates and sales tax in many states.
- Product filtering. Shop Kit's list does not include a filter engine. The Off Canvas Widget Area gives filters a home; WooCommerce's filter blocks or a filter plugin supply them.
- SEO. The theme ships integration styles for Rank Math, but the SEO plugin itself is separate.
- Order email on Essentials and Pro. Built-in sending is an Elite feature; otherwise use an SMTP plugin, and see order emails not sending when receipts vanish.
- Subscription billing. Kadence Memberships covers member access; recurring product billing in WooCommerce usually means an extension, and subscriptions not renewing is the page for when it stalls.
A Kadence store against the stopwatch
Kadence splits its CSS by component and keeps its own scripts free of jQuery, except the WooCommerce-related ones. That is a good start, and it covers the cached pages. The pages a shopper pays on are another matter: cart, checkout and My Account are built per visitor, so WooCommerce tells caches to leave them alone, and each visit runs the theme, WooCommerce, Shop Kit and every other active plugin in full.
Two theme details matter here. In Kadence 1.5.2, the desktop and mobile header cart functions each enqueue WooCommerce's cart fragments script, so any header that includes a cart loads it on every page and fires an AJAX request to refresh the count. And Flux Checkout, if you turn it on, adds its own interface on top of the uncached checkout. Neither is wrong. Both are costs worth measuring on a phone before and after.
To measure, open a product page with the network panel filtered for get_refreshed_fragments, then time the checkout on a throttled mobile profile. The free Performance panel settings and the rest of the order are in Kadence speed. If the site got slower after an update rather than gradually, start at Kadence slow after update.
Store breakage on Kadence: the reports worth knowing
- Product grid or single product layout collapsed after an update. Our Kadence WooCommerce layout broken guide covers the theme side; the cross-theme WooCommerce layout broken checklist covers caches and template overrides.
- Mobile menu opens empty. Kadence 1.5.1 users reported an off-canvas drawer with zero items despite assigned menus, which on a store hides every category link. See Kadence header builder mobile issues.
- Missing script files. In 1.5.2, scroll-up.min.js returned a 404 for one user until WordPress and Kadence Blocks were updated. A 404 on a theme asset is a packaging or caching issue, not a setting.
- Content changed by a Blocks update. One user reported internal links removed from posts after a Kadence Blocks update, with a lifetime license showing UNKNOWN and no reply to six tickets in six days.
- Variations that will not select. Swatches, quickview and the theme all touch the variation form; variations not showing explains how to test which one is at fault.
- Old forum answers. The Kadence community forum was retired in favor of tickets, so pre-2026 advice may describe products that have since been renamed.
For a hands-on fix, our Kadence repair work and WooCommerce website repair cover the theme and the store together, and a checkout that refuses orders has its own guide.
One vendor for the whole store: the bet, and the way out
The 2026 Kadence pitch is consolidation: theme, Shop Kit, security from SolidWP, memberships from Restrict Content Pro and backups, all from Liquid Web. For a small shop, one support desk and one renewal date is a genuine improvement over six vendors. The risk is the mirror image. When one vendor owns the gallery, the checkout, the firewall and the backups, one licensing mix-up or one slow support queue touches all of them at once, and 2026's forum threads show both happening.
Consolidation turns six renewal dates into one, and six points of failure into one bigger one.
If your store needs custom pricing, quotes, configurators beyond what Shop Kit offers, or memberships wired into products, it is worth pricing the alternative. A Next.js store is one tested codebase; product pages are prerendered and the checkout runs on a short path. Every site we build includes Athena CMS with built-in e-commerce and Stripe-billed membership areas. The trade-offs are in Kadence vs Next.js, the move itself in WooCommerce to Next.js and Kadence to Next.js. Staying on Kadence and want it built properly? Our Kadence developers do that too. More themes live in the WordPress themes hub.
Questions people ask before they call
No. The free theme's Customizer > WooCommerce panel handles product layouts, catalog columns, the store notice, checkout fields and the account page. Shop Kit adds behavior: WooThumbs galleries, Flux multi-step checkout, swatches, quickview, wishlists, bundles and delivery slots. Buy it when you would otherwise install three or more of those as separate plugins.
Version 3.0.6.1 fixes CVE-2026-32550, which affected Shop Kit 3.0.6 and earlier and needed only a Subscriber-level login. Update, check for unknown administrator accounts, and make sure your license still delivers updates after the 2026 rebrand. If you see signs of misuse, get WooCommerce website repair involved quickly.
As of October 2026, Shop Kit is in Pro at $299 a year and Elite at $499 a year. Essentials at $99 covers the theme, blocks and header builder but not Shop Kit. Plans are priced per site, and the pricing page does not state site limits, so confirm before running several stores. Details are in Kadence pricing.
That is WooCommerce's cart fragments script refreshing the header cart. In Kadence 1.5.2 the desktop and mobile cart elements enqueue it whenever they appear. Removing the cart from the header removes the request; dequeuing the script keeps the icon but stops the live count. Measure first, using the steps in Kadence speed.
Kadence's terms say the products keep working, but updates, premium support and premium templates stop. For Shop Kit, missing updates means missing security fixes like 3.0.6.1. Legacy subscribers who lapse must buy a new plan to reinstate access. If renewal costs are the issue, compare the long-term numbers in Kadence vs Next.js.
