Kadence Blocks Errors or a Broken Header? Fix Your Kadence Site
Kadence gives you a theme, a block library, a header builder and a catalog of starter sites, all from one family. That convenience is also the risk. When one piece updates ahead of the others, or an import stops halfway, the site breaks in places that look unrelated.

Signs your Kadence stack is out of step
- The editor flags blocks with an 'unexpected or invalid content' warning
- You changed the palette and half the site ignored it
- The mobile header shows the wrong logo or no menu at all
- Demo pages, placeholder photos and sample menus are still live
- A Pro feature stopped getting updates after the renewal date passed
- Blocks look right in the editor and different on the live page
Why Kadence sites break, most common first
Most common first, each with a way to check it yourself.
- 1
Block markup that no longer matches the plugin
Kadence Blocks saves each block as markup inside your content. When a plugin update changes how a block is saved, or the content was edited by another tool, the editor detects the mismatch and flags it. Visitors may see nothing wrong until someone tries to edit the page.
Check it: Open a flagged page in the editor. If several blocks carry the same warning, the cause is an update, not your content.
- 2
Hard-coded colors instead of the global palette
The Global Palette under Customize, Colors feeds CSS variables that every Kadence block can use. Blocks where someone picked a custom hex value ignore it, so a rebrand repaints some buttons and leaves the rest in last year's colors.
Check it: Change one palette color on a staging copy and browse the site. Anything still wearing the old color was hard-coded.
- 3
A header built for desktop and forgotten on mobile
The Kadence header builder keeps a separate layout for tablet and mobile. An element added to the desktop header does not appear on phones unless someone builds it there too, and most visitors are on phones.
Check it: In the Customizer's header builder, switch the device preview to mobile and compare it with desktop, element by element.
- 4
A Starter Template import that stopped partway
Starter Templates install plugins, content, Customizer settings and widgets in sequence. A timeout or memory limit can halt the process midway, leaving demo content mixed with yours and settings only partly applied.
Check it: Search Pages and the Media Library for demo titles and placeholder images. If they sit next to your real content, the import never finished cleanly.
- 5
Pro add-ons running on a lapsed license
Kadence Pro features such as hooked elements and conditional headers come from licensed add-on plugins. When the license lapses they stop receiving updates and drift out of step with the free theme and blocks they extend.
Check it: Compare the last update dates of the Kadence theme, Kadence Blocks and each Pro add-on. A long gap means the licensed pieces are behind.
- 6
Two block libraries on one site
Kadence Blocks alongside another block collection means two sets of styles and scripts, overlapping controls and two versions of every row and button. Styles collide, pages get heavier and editors pick whichever block they found first.
Check it: Look in Plugins for more than one block collection. If both are active, find out which pages use each before removing either.
Do this today
Open Customize, Colors and note the colors in your global palette. Then change one on a staging copy and click through the site. Every element that stayed the same is hard-coded, and that list is your cleanup plan.
How we repair a Kadence build
- 1
Inventory the Kadence family
Theme, Kadence Blocks, Pro add-ons, Starter Templates and any other block plugins, with versions and license status. Most Kadence faults come from one piece out of step with the rest.
- 2
Sweep every page for block errors
We open the content that matters and record each validation warning, so the repair covers the whole site rather than only the page someone happened to notice.
- 3
Repair on staging, then compare
Updates, block recoveries and header changes happen on a staging copy. We compare live and staging side by side, on desktop and on a phone, before anything moves.
- 4
Clean up and hand over
Leftover demo content removed, palette and typography consolidated, and a short note for your team on how the header and palette are meant to be edited.
What the Kadence repair includes
Block recovery done carefully
Invalid blocks repaired one at a time with the content checked afterward, because the one-click recovery can drop settings without saying so.
A palette that actually governs
Hard-coded colors and font choices replaced with global palette and typography settings, so a brand change is one edit instead of forty.
Headers that work on a phone
Tablet and mobile header rows rebuilt, the slide-out menu tested on real devices and the logo sized for small screens.
Imports finished or unwound
A half-applied starter template either completed properly or stripped back out, with demo pages, images and menus removed from the live site.
Repair it, or start over?
The honest answer depends on the site, not on what we would rather sell.
Repair it when
- The site runs on the Kadence theme and Kadence Blocks with few other builders involved
- The problems are block warnings, header layouts or leftover demo content
- The design still suits the business and your team edits pages without help
- The licenses can be renewed and the Kadence plugins brought back into step
Rebuild it when
- Kadence Blocks, a second block library and a page builder all share the same pages
- The starter template was never really customized, and the site still looks like the demo
- Page speed stays poor after the plugin list has been cut to the essentials
- The business needs custom features the block editor fights. A Next.js build or a planned move off WordPress may cost less over time
When to bring someone in
Get help if block warnings appear on many pages at once, since recovering them one by one without a backup can lose settings. The same goes for a Starter Template import that failed partway on a live site, or a mobile header that breaks only on certain phones. All three are faster to fix on staging with the whole stack in view.

Frequently asked
The editor compares each block's saved markup with what the plugin expects to produce. When they differ, usually after an update or an edit made outside the editor, it flags the block. Visitors often see nothing wrong, but the page should be repaired before anyone edits it.
Usually, on a simple block. On complex Kadence blocks such as rows, tabs or forms, recovery can reset settings it cannot read. Back up first, recover one block and compare the result with the live page before doing the rest.
Because Kadence treats them as separate layouts. The header builder has its own rows for tablet and mobile, and nothing added on desktop carries over automatically. Each device has to be built on purpose.
The Pro add-ons generally keep running, but updates and support stop. As the free theme and Kadence Blocks move forward the gap widens, and features that lean on Pro, such as conditional headers, are where breakage tends to show up first.
Yes, with care. The import mixes demo pages, images, menus and settings with whatever already existed. Remove demo content on staging, or restore a backup taken before the import, rather than bulk-deleting on the live site.
They can coexist, but each loads its own styles and scripts and offers its own version of rows, buttons and headings. Pick one library for layout, convert the pages built with the other and then remove it.
