Kadence fix
Kadence Pro or Blocks Pro License Not Activating? Check the Key
Kadence sells its Pro features as separate plugins: Kadence Pro for the theme, Kadence Blocks Pro for the block library and others beside them. Each is installed, activated and licensed on the site in its own right. Most activation trouble is a mismatch among those pieces, and most reports of Pro features vanishing turn out to be a switch.
What you are seeing
- The license form returns an error or quietly clears the key
- Kadence Pro is active and its header and element options are missing
- Pro blocks show as unsupported in the editor
- Updates for a Pro plugin never appear, or fail to install
- Pro designs in the library show as locked
Why it happens on Kadence
Most common first.
- 1
The Pro plugin is present but its base is missing or behind
Kadence Pro only extends the Kadence theme, and Kadence Blocks Pro only extends the free Kadence Blocks plugin. If the base is inactive, replaced by another theme or several releases older than the add-on, Pro loads little or nothing. The license screen may still read active, which sends people looking in the wrong place.
- 2
The key does not cover that plugin
A bundle license covers the Kadence family. A single-product purchase covers one plugin. A Kadence Blocks Pro key entered for the theme add-on is refused, and so is a key from an old account that was later replaced by a bundle under a different email.
- 3
The feature's module is switched off
Kadence Pro's features are individual toggles under Appearance, Kadence: header add-ons, conditional headers, hooked elements, the mega menu, WooCommerce add-ons and more. A module turned off, by a person or by a settings reset, removes the feature while the license stays valid.
- 4
Activation cannot reach Kadence's servers
The plugin validates the key by contacting Kadence's licensing service. A host that restricts outbound requests, a security plugin or a site locked down for maintenance can block the call. The form fails for reasons that have nothing to do with the key.
- 5
The license expired or reached its site limit
After expiry the plugins keep running, but updates stop and licensed extras such as Pro library designs lock. Where a plan limits the number of sites, activations left on staging copies and old domains count against it until they are released in the account.
How to fix it, in order
Least invasive first. Stop at the step that fixes it.
- 1
List what is installed and what was bought
In Plugins, note which Kadence plugins are present and whether each is active: Kadence Blocks, Kadence Blocks Pro, Kadence Pro and any others. Then log in to the account at kadencewp.com and note which products the license covers and when it expires. Compare the two lists before touching any form.
- 2
Put the bases in place and update them
Make Kadence or a Kadence child theme the active theme under Appearance, Themes. Activate the free Kadence Blocks plugin. Update both, on a staging copy if the site is busy, so the Pro plugins have current versions to attach to.
- 3
Turn the modules back on
Open Appearance, Kadence and review the Pro add-on switches. Enable the ones your site uses, then check the Customizer and the editor for the feature that went missing.
- 4
Activate each Pro plugin with the right key
Each Pro plugin is activated from the Kadence area of wp-admin. Copy the key from your account without surrounding spaces and activate the theme add-on and the blocks add-on separately. Depending on the version, the form may also ask for the email on the account, and it has to match.
- 5
Free up activations and retry
If the account shows the key in use on sites you no longer run, release those activations there. Deactivate the license on a staging copy before you delete it. Then activate again on the live address.
- 6
Make sure the firewall lets Kadence phone home
If the form still fails with a valid key, pause security plugins for one attempt and ask the host whether outgoing requests are filtered. When an update cannot wait, download the plugin's current zip from the Kadence account and upload it under Plugins, Add New, on staging before the live site.
Keep it from coming back
- Keep the Kadence account under a company email, not a contractor's
- Update the theme, Kadence Blocks and both Pro plugins in one sitting
- Release licenses from staging copies before removing them
- Record which Pro modules the site relies on
The permanent fix
A faster Next.js build, with a CMS made for your business
License trouble on its own is paperwork. The pattern worth noticing is a site whose header, menus and page layouts each depend on a different licensed plugin being active, current and renewed, so that when one lapses the others go on updating around it. A Next.js build has no add-ons to license: the conditional header and the mega menu are part of the site's own code, and the custom CMS has one login and nothing to reactivate.
| On Kadence today | On Next.js with a custom CMS | |
|---|---|---|
| What you keep updated | WordPress, the theme, its builder and every bundled plugin, all in step | Nothing on a schedule. There is no theme or plugin stack to fall out of step |
| How a page is served | Built from the database on each visit, through the theme and its builder | Built ahead of time and served as finished files from servers near the visitor |
| How you edit it | A general-purpose builder with every option the theme ships | A CMS built around what your business actually changes: services, prices, photos, posts |
| What can break it | An update to any one of those parts, or a license that lapses | A change someone makes on purpose, tested before it goes live |
Your content, your addresses and your rankings come with you: every page is moved, every old address is redirected, and you get a login to an editor that only shows what you need. A repair is still the right call for many sites, and we will say so when it is.

Frequently asked
With a bundle, generally yes: one license covers the family, though each plugin is still activated on the site. Bought separately, each has its own key and neither will accept the other's. Your account at kadencewp.com shows which arrangement you have.
That message means the plugin that provides the block is not running. Pro blocks such as the modal, the post grid and the advanced slider come from Kadence Blocks Pro, and it needs the free Kadence Blocks plugin active beneath it. Reactivate both and the blocks return with their content intact.
Because a valid license only permits updates and support. What makes a feature appear is the plugin being active, its base theme or plugin being present and the feature's own switch being on under Appearance, Kadence. Check those three before contacting anyone about the key.
Yes. Deactivate it on the staging copy, or release that activation from your Kadence account, then activate on the live address. If the staging site was deleted with its license still active, the account is the place to clear it.
