BeTheme fix
BeTheme Site Slow? Trim the Pre-Built Demo, Not Your Content
A slow BeTheme site is usually a pre-built website still doing everything the demo did. The slider at the top, the entrance animation on every section and the fonts loaded from three places were built to impress in a preview, not to load on a phone in a parking lot. BeTheme has a Performance section that addresses much of it, and on most sites nobody has opened it.
What you are seeing
- The top of the home page is blank until the slider finishes loading
- PageSpeed Insights names the slider image as the largest element
- Sections fade or slide in one at a time as you scroll
- Mobile scores stay low even with a caching plugin installed
- The page loads font and icon files it barely uses
Why it happens on BeTheme
Most common first.
- 1
A Slider Revolution hero carried over from the demo
Many pre-built websites open on a Slider Revolution slider. It needs its own scripts and styles before the first slide can paint, and that slide is usually the largest thing on the page. The visitor waits on the heaviest element first.
- 2
Entrance animations on nearly every section
BeBuilder lets each section and item animate into view, and the demos use it generously. The animation assets load on every page, and content that starts hidden shows up late for visitors and for speed tests alike.
- 3
Performance options nobody configured
Theme Options, Performance decides how Google Fonts load, whether images lazy load, which theme and WordPress assets are sent, whether CSS and JavaScript are minified and where builder styles live. Left alone, the site ships more than its pages use.
- 4
Two optimizers doing the same job
When BeTheme minifies its files and a caching plugin minifies and combines them again, you get slower cache builds, the occasional broken layout and no extra speed. Each job belongs to one tool.
- 5
Demo leftovers and bundled plugins in reserve
Sample pages, a second slider plugin and a page builder installed just in case all add code. Bundled plugins activated for the import and never used afterward still load on the front end.
How to fix it, in order
Least invasive first. Stop at the step that fixes it.
- 1
Measure first, and work on a copy
Run the home page through PageSpeed Insights on mobile and note which element it reports as the Largest Contentful Paint. Then make the changes below on a staging copy or after a full backup. Asset settings can break a layout.
- 2
Deal with the hero slider
If the first thing on the page is a Slider Revolution slider showing one slide, replace it with a plain BeBuilder section: a background image, a heading and a button. If it must stay a slider, cut the slide count and compress the first slide's image hard.
- 3
Set the fonts and lazy loading
In BeTheme, Theme Options, Performance, set Google Fonts to load from your own server and enable the local font cache. Trim the families chosen under Theme Options, Fonts to the ones in use. Turn on lazy load for images.
- 4
Switch off assets no page uses
The same Performance screen lists theme assets such as entrance animations, Font Awesome and the HTML5 video player, and WordPress assets such as the block library, Dashicons and emoji. Disable what the site does not need, then check every template. Turning off Font Awesome removes any icon that relied on it.
- 5
Minify in one place and enable Static CSS
Turn on BeTheme's minified CSS and JS and its Static CSS option, or leave minification to your caching plugin. Not both. Clear every cache and reload the key pages in a private window.
- 6
Remove what the demo left behind
Delete sample pages and portfolio items, remove sliders nothing displays and deactivate bundled plugins that appear on no page. For hosting, PHP and database work beyond the theme, follow the WordPress speed guide linked on this page.
Keep it from coming back
- Build new pages from lean sections instead of cloning demo pages
- Keep animation for one or two moments, not every section
- Recheck the Performance options after each major theme update
- Test on a real phone before and after adding a slider or a plugin
The permanent fix
A faster Next.js build, with a CMS made for your business
If the site is still slow on phones after the slider is gone, the animations are off and the Performance options are set, what remains is the floor of a multipurpose theme: its framework, its builder markup and the plugins around it. Swap the pre-built demo for a Next.js build and the sliders, entrance animations and BeBuilder markup go with it, while a custom CMS keeps your team editing without a builder in between. The move makes sense when speed is costing you leads and the theme has nothing left to give.
| On BeTheme today | On Next.js with a custom CMS | |
|---|---|---|
| What you keep updated | WordPress, the theme, its builder and every bundled plugin, all in step | Nothing on a schedule. There is no theme or plugin stack to fall out of step |
| How a page is served | Built from the database on each visit, through the theme and its builder | Built ahead of time and served as finished files from servers near the visitor |
| How you edit it | A general-purpose builder with every option the theme ships | A CMS built around what your business actually changes: services, prices, photos, posts |
| What can break it | An update to any one of those parts, or a license that lapses | A change someone makes on purpose, tested before it goes live |
Your content, your addresses and your rankings come with you: every page is moved, every old address is redirected, and you get a login to an editor that only shows what you need. A repair is still the right call for many sites, and we will say so when it is.

Frequently asked
No. A BeTheme page built with restraint and sensible Performance options can load well. Sites get slow when a pre-built demo launches with its slider, animations and sample content intact. The theme does carry more framework than a minimal one, so its ceiling sits lower than a hand-built site's.
Both, with separate jobs. The Performance options decide what the theme loads and in what form. A caching plugin or your host stores the finished page. Let one of them minify, not both, and test after each change.
It leaves a gap or an error where the slider was, so replace the slider on the page first. Build the new hero as a BeBuilder section, publish it, then deactivate the plugin if no other page uses a slider. Do it on a staging copy if you can.
It can. Icons drawn from Font Awesome disappear, and animated sections simply appear without motion. That is why these switches are tested page by page. Most business sites lose nothing a customer would miss.
