Hestia Header Not Showing: Big Title, Page Headers and the Navbar

Hestia's front page is a stack of Customizer sections, and the one at the top, the Big Title, is the first thing every visitor sees. It is also the easiest to lose. A page template picked in the editor, one checkbox in General Settings or a change on the Reading screen, and the home page opens on bare content.

The short answer

When the Hestia header is missing, check that Settings, Reading uses a static front page, that the front page uses the Default template, that Disable Frontpage Sections is unticked and that the Big Title Section is not disabled. On inner pages, check Posts/Pages Layout. If the navbar is gone, look for the page's Disable Navigation toggle or a blank template.

Hestia draws three different things at the top of a page, and each has its own off switch. The navbar is the bar with your logo and menu, on every page. The Big Title Section is the large opening panel of the front page, with a title, subtitle, button and background. The page header is the colored or photographic band behind the title on posts, pages and shop pages. Before changing anything, name the one that is missing and where.

  • Big Title gone from the home page: the front page settings, covered next.
  • Every front-page section gone at once: the same settings, almost always.
  • Inner pages lost their header band: the Posts/Pages Layout choice.
  • Navbar gone on one page: that page's own settings box or template.
  • Navbar there but blank or unreadable: the transparent navbar over a pale image.

Four reasons the front page loses its Big Title

Themeisle's documentation lists three checks for front-page sections that disappear, and Hestia's front-page.php in 3.3.7 shows why each matters. The template prints the sections only when the front page has no page template assigned and the global switch is off. Otherwise it quietly loads the page template instead, and the sections never print.

  1. 1

    A static front page

Settings, Reading must say A static page, with a page chosen as Homepage. Themeisle's docs say that when the home page displays your latest posts, the front-page sections are not displayed.

  2. 2

    The Default template

Edit the page set as Homepage and check its template. Page Builder Full Width, Page Builder Blank, Fullwidth Template or any builder canvas makes Hestia load that template instead of the sections.

  3. 3

    Disable Frontpage Sections unticked

Customizer, Appearance Settings, General Settings. When this box is ticked, every section, the Big Title included, is switched off.

  4. 4

    The Big Title Section enabled

Customizer, Frontpage Sections, Big Title Section. Check its Disable section switch, or the eye icon beside it in the section list.

Once the section prints, check what it is told to show. Big Title Background offers Image, Parallax and Video, the last a Pro feature. If Parallax is chosen and the First Layer is empty, Hestia skips the parallax layers altogether, which can leave the title floating over a bare box. On Elementor sites, the editor adds a Disable section link to the other front-page sections when you edit the home page, and one stray click there switches that section off for good.

Posts/Pages Layout and the inner-page header band

Inner pages get their header from a section Hestia renames Posts & Pages, Header, under the Header Options panel. Its Posts/Pages Layout control offers three pictures rather than names. Reading the 3.3.7 code, the first prints the title inside the band. The second keeps the band but moves the title down into the content. The third, a classic blog layout, prints no band at all. If your pages suddenly look flat, someone picked the third.

What decides the Hestia page header on each kind of page
Layout usedBackground image, in order of preference
Posts and pagesPosts/Pages Layout, unless the page stores its own layoutFeatured image, then the header image, then a gradient
Blog pagePosts/Pages LayoutThe blog page's featured image, then the header image, then a gradient
Shop pageThe first layout, unless the shop page stores its ownShop page featured image, then the header image
Single productsProducts Layout, which defaults to no title in the bandCategory image, then the header image
Cart and checkoutThe layout without a title in the band, unless the page stores its ownFeatured image, then the header image, then a gradient

Tick Enable Header Image Sitewide in the same section and the header image wins everywhere, overriding featured images. If one page shows the wrong photo, check its featured image before blaming the theme. A per-page layout, when one is stored on the page, also overrides the Customizer choice, so a single odd page usually has its own setting.

When the navbar disappears from a page

Pages and posts in the editor carry a Hestia settings box in the sidebar. Under Components it has a Disable Navigation toggle, free in 3.3.7, that removes the navbar from that page alone. It exists for landing pages and is forgotten as soon as the campaign ends. Check it first on any page that has lost its menu.

  • Page Builder Blank template: prints the page builder content with no Hestia header or footer at all. It is meant for full-canvas designs.
  • Elementor Canvas: Elementor's own blank template, which also prints no theme header.
  • Elementor Header & Footer Builder plugin: Hestia hands the header over to it whenever that plugin's header template is enabled. If the template is then deleted or restricted, the top of the page can end up empty.
  • A child theme header.php: an old copy overriding the theme's file can print outdated markup after an update.

Builder-side checks live in our Elementor repair hub and in Elementor theme conflicts. The general map of who can print a header is in WordPress header not showing.

A transparent navbar over a pale photograph

Under Header Options, Website, Header, Transparent Navbar is on by default. On the front page it lets the Big Title image show through until the visitor scrolls. Upload a light photo, or hide the Big Title, and white menu text can vanish against it. Site Identity has a separate Transparent Header Logo setting for that state; a dark logo on a transparent bar looks like no logo at all.

Two recent fixes matter here. Version 3.3.7 fixed missing logos on inner pages with a transparent header, a Pro per-page option. Version 3.3.6 fixed the sticky navbar overlapping the WordPress admin bar on small screens, which only logged-in users ever saw and which made some owners think the header was broken for everyone. Update before you debug, and check the page logged out.

Restoring a Hestia header, front page first

  1. 1

    Work on a copy

Clone the site to staging. Front-page settings affect the most-visited page you have.

  2. 2

    Update Hestia

Install the current release on staging; 3.3.6 and 3.3.7 both fixed header display bugs.

  3. 3

    Check Reading and the template

Static front page selected, Default template on the page chosen as Homepage.

  4. 4

    Check the two section switches

Disable Frontpage Sections under Appearance Settings, General Settings, and Disable section on the Big Title Section.

  5. 5

    Check the Big Title content

Background type, image or both parallax layers, title and button.

  6. 6

    Check inner page layouts

Posts/Pages Layout, Products Layout, Enable Header Image Sitewide and the page's featured image.

  7. 7

    Check the page itself

Disable Navigation in the page's settings box, its template, and any header plugin's display rules.

  8. 8

    Purge and look logged out

Clear page, host and CDN caches and test in a private window on a phone and a desktop.

Old tutorials, new panels: what 3.3.0 moved

The 3.3.0 changelog says Themeisle brought all header options into one panel and reorganized crowded Customizer options. Screenshots older than mid-2025 therefore send owners to sections that no longer exist where they were. In 3.3.7 the Header Options panel holds Site Identity, Website: Very Top Bar, Website: Header and Posts & Pages: Header. The front page sections live in their own Frontpage Sections panel, and the global switch sits under Appearance Settings, General Settings.

  • Keep a note of who owns the header on each special page: Hestia, a page template or a header plugin.
  • Switch Disable Navigation back off when a landing page campaign ends.
  • Never assign a page template to the page used as Homepage unless you mean to replace the sections.
  • Test the front page on a phone after each Hestia update; our hosting and maintenance plans do this on a copy first.

If the header returns but the menu inside it will not open, read Hestia mobile menu not working. If a header color change will not appear, Hestia CSS not updating covers the caches.

Three header systems on one scrolling page

A Hestia site can have its top of page decided by Reading settings, a page template, two Customizer panels, a per-page toggle and a header plugin. That flexibility is real, and for a small one-page site it is often enough. Our Hestia review explains who it suits, and the Hestia speed guide shows what the Big Title costs a phone.

In a Next.js build the header and hero are components in one codebase, shown or hidden by code that is reviewed before each deploy. It costs more up front and layout changes need a developer. Hestia vs Next.js sets out the trade, and Hestia to Next.js explains how Customizer sections become editable content. To keep Hestia and have the header put back, our theme repair team works on staging. More guides are in the troubleshooting section.

Questions people ask before they call

Usually one of three settings changed. The home page must be a static page under Settings, Reading; the page chosen as Homepage must use the Default template; and Disable Frontpage Sections under Appearance Settings, General Settings must be unticked. Hestia's front-page template loads the page template instead of the sections whenever one is assigned.

Open Customizer, Frontpage Sections, Big Title Section and use its Disable section switch, or the eye icon in the section list. The navbar stays. If the navbar was transparent over the Big Title, check its colors afterward, since it now sits over ordinary content.

Check Posts/Pages Layout under Header Options, Posts & Pages, Header. Of its three layouts, the classic blog option prints no header band at all and puts the title in the content. Pages can also store their own layout, which overrides the Customizer choice.

Hestia prefers a page's featured image over the header image for the band behind its title. Remove or change that featured image, or tick Enable Header Image Sitewide to use the header image everywhere. Products use their category image first, and single posts fall back to a gradient.

Open that page in the editor and check the Hestia settings box in the sidebar for Disable Navigation, then check the page template. Page Builder Blank and Elementor Canvas both print no theme header. If you use the Elementor Header & Footer Builder plugin, check that its header still applies to the page. Our theme troubleshooting team can trace it.
