WoodMart fix
WoodMart Dummy Content Import Failed, Stuck or Missing Products?
You picked a prebuilt website, clicked import and watched the progress bar stop, or it finished and the home page arrived with no products and gray boxes where the photos should be. A WoodMart import is a long chain of server requests, and it fails at the weakest one. The fix is finding that link, not clicking import a fourth time.
- Importing prebuilt website: base content
- Pages 14/14 · HTML Blocks 22/22 · menus 3/3
- Products 38/214 · attachments 61/540
- wp-admin/admin-ajax.php 500 (Internal Server Error)
- Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 134217728 bytes exhausted
- Import stopped. Products and media incomplete.
What you are seeing
- The import progress bar stops partway and never moves again
- The import reports success but the shop page shows no products
- Pages arrive with gray placeholders or broken image icons
- The header and footer look nothing like the demo you chose
- Menus, sliders or whole sections are missing, or appear twice
Why it happens on WoodMart
Most common first.
- 1
A background request that timed out
The importer downloads hundreds of images and creates products, pages and menus through a series of background requests. On shared hosting a short PHP execution time, a low memory limit or a firewall that throttles repeated requests cuts one of them off. The bar stops and nothing on screen says why.
- 2
A required plugin was missing when it ran
Demo content is written for WoodMart Core, WooCommerce and one page builder. If WooCommerce was not active, the products had nowhere to go. If the builder was installed afterward, or switched since, the pages hold layouts the active builder cannot read.
- 3
No purchase code on the license screen
WoodMart's prebuilt websites are fetched from the vendor's servers, and the theme generally expects a registered purchase code before it will download them. An unactivated copy, or a code already registered to another domain, leaves the import screen locked or failing at the first step.
- 4
Images blocked on the way in
Media is pulled from a remote server one file at a time. A host that blocks outbound requests, a full disk quota or an uploads folder that is not writable leaves pages pointing at files that never arrived. Theme vendors also swap some demo photography for placeholders for licensing reasons, so a few gray boxes can be by design.
- 5
Three attempts, three sets of pages
Each new attempt adds to what the last one left behind. Three half-finished imports produce duplicate pages with -2 in their addresses, several menus sharing one name and a home page setting that points at the wrong copy.
How to fix it, in order
Least invasive first. Stop at the step that fixes it.
- 1
Start from a backup or an empty site
If the site already holds real pages or orders, take a full backup first. A prebuilt website can replace your home page, menus, widgets and theme settings. On a brand new install with nothing to lose, starting over is cleaner than repairing.
- 2
Confirm the prerequisites in the WoodMart dashboard
Check that the license screen shows the theme as activated. Then open the Plugins tab in the WoodMart dashboard and make sure WoodMart Core, WooCommerce and the one page builder you intend to use are installed, active and current. Finish the WooCommerce setup so its shop, cart and checkout pages exist.
- 3
Read the PHP limits the importer runs under
Tools, Site Health, Info, Server lists the PHP version, memory limit and maximum execution time. The system status screen in the WoodMart dashboard, where your version has one, marks values it considers too low. Ask the host to raise them and to confirm outbound requests are allowed.
- 4
Delete what the earlier tries left
Delete the duplicate pages, HTML Blocks, menus and sample products the earlier tries created, then empty the trash. If the site holds nothing worth keeping, a database reset plugin returns it to a clean install faster than deleting by hand.
- 5
Run base content first, then one demo
Open the import screen in the WoodMart menu, labeled Prebuilt websites in current versions and Dummy Content in older ones. Import the base content first if your version offers it, then the single demo you want. Do not queue several. Keep the tab open and the computer awake until it reports that it has finished.
- 6
Repair what arrived incomplete
Under Settings, Reading, point the home page at the imported one, then give each menu its location under Appearance, Menus. Choose the header in WoodMart, Header Builder. If products exist but the shop is empty, go to WooCommerce, Status, Tools and regenerate the product lookup tables. The same screen regenerates shop thumbnails if images are cropped wrong.
Keep it from coming back
- Import on staging or a fresh install, never over a store with orders
- Activate the theme and update WoodMart Core before importing anything
- Import one prebuilt website, then delete the pages and blocks you will not use
- Take a backup the moment the import looks right, before editing begins
The permanent fix
A faster Next.js build, with a CMS made for your business
An import that fails once is a hosting limit. A store that launched on demo content and never quite became your own is a different matter: you are maintaining someone else's layout, sample blocks included. A Next.js build with a custom CMS starts from your catalog and your pages, so there is no demo to import and nothing left over to clean out.
| On WoodMart today | On Next.js with a custom CMS | |
|---|---|---|
| What you keep updated | WordPress, the theme, its builder and every bundled plugin, all in step | Nothing on a schedule. There is no theme or plugin stack to fall out of step |
| How a page is served | Built from the database on each visit, through the theme and its builder | Built ahead of time and served as finished files from servers near the visitor |
| How you edit it | A general-purpose builder with every option the theme ships | A CMS built around what your business actually changes: services, prices, photos, posts |
| What can break it | An update to any one of those parts, or a license that lapses | A change someone makes on purpose, tested before it goes live |
Your content, your addresses and your rankings come with you: every page is moved, every old address is redirected, and you get a login to an editor that only shows what you need. A repair is still the right call for many sites, and we will say so when it is.

Frequently asked
Only with a fresh backup in hand. Prebuilt websites bring their own home page, menus, widgets and theme settings, and those replace what is set now. Existing products and posts are normally left alone, but the store will look different afterward. Back up first, or import on a staging copy and move over only what you want.
Usually WooCommerce was inactive or not yet set up when the import ran, or the request that creates products timed out partway. Confirm WooCommerce is active and its pages exist, clear the partial import and run it again. If products are listed in the dashboard but absent from the shop, regenerate the lookup tables under WooCommerce, Status, Tools.
The content stacks: two sets of pages, blocks and menus, with settings taken from whichever ran last. If you want one page design from another demo, import that page alone where the importer offers the choice. Otherwise reset and begin with the demo you prefer.
Minutes, not hours, on reasonable hosting. The media step is the slow part because every image is fetched separately. A bar that has not moved for ten minutes has almost certainly stopped, and the browser console or the server error log will show the request that failed.
