Neve fix
Neve Pro License Not Activating, or Pro Features Gone?
Neve Pro is not a different theme. It is an add-on plugin, unlocked by a license key that lives in a Themeisle account and counts the sites it is used on. When the key is refused or the Pro features go quiet, the cause is nearly always in one of those three places: the plugin, the key or the count.
- Neve Pro Addon: license activation requested
- site: https://www.example.com
- license: valid, renewal due in 142 days
- activation refused: site limit reached (3 of 3)
- in use: staging.example.com, dev.example.com, example.net
- update check skipped: license not active on this site
What you are seeing
- The license field rejects the key or returns to blank
- The dashboard says the license is not active on a site where it used to be
- Sticky header, custom layouts or shop options stopped working
- Neve Pro shows an update that will not install
- The Pro modules list is locked or missing from the Neve dashboard
Why it happens on Neve
Most common first.
- 1
The Neve Pro plugin is not running
The key does nothing by itself. Pro features come from the Neve Pro add-on plugin, downloaded from the Themeisle account and installed like any other plugin. If it was deactivated during troubleshooting, removed by a failed update or never uploaded to this copy of the site, the free theme carries on alone and every Pro feature goes with the plugin.
- 2
The site moved and the activation did not
An activation belongs to a site address. Launch a staging copy under the real domain, change the domain or restore the site on new hosting, and the license can show as inactive on what feels like the same site. Meanwhile the old address still holds a slot.
- 3
Every allowed site is already taken
Each Neve Pro plan permits a set number of sites. Staging copies, a developer's test install and last year's domain all count until they are released. The key is valid. It is simply busy elsewhere.
- 4
The key belongs to another product, plan or person
Themeisle sells several products, and one account can hold more than one key. A key for a different plugin will not activate Neve Pro, and a lower plan will not unlock modules that belong to a higher one. On inherited sites the key often sits in the original builder's account.
- 5
The server cannot reach Themeisle to check
Activation is a call from your server to Themeisle's licensing service. A host that blocks outgoing connections, or a security plugin that filters them, makes a good key fail with a vague error. The same block stops update checks, so the add-on quietly ages.
How to fix it, in order
Least invasive first. Stop at the step that fixes it.
- 1
Confirm the add-on is installed and active
Open Plugins and look for the Neve Pro add-on. If it is missing, sign in to the Themeisle account, download the current zip and upload it under Plugins, Add New, Upload Plugin. If it is present but inactive, activate it. Neve or a Neve child theme has to be the active theme for it to do anything.
- 2
Copy the right key from the right account
In the Themeisle account, find the purchase for Neve Pro and copy its key from there, not from an old email. Check the plan and the expiry date while you are on that screen. If nobody can sign in to the account, stop here and settle ownership first.
- 3
Release the activations you no longer use
The account should list the sites the key is active on. Deactivate the staging copies, test installs and retired domains. If the list cannot be edited from the account, Themeisle support can clear it for the account holder.
- 4
Enter the key in the Neve dashboard
Go to the Neve dashboard in wp-admin (Appearance, Neve Options on older versions, the Neve menu on newer ones) and find the license field. Paste the key with no spaces before or after it and activate. Then open the Pro modules list and confirm the modules the site depends on are switched on.
- 5
If the key still fails, test the connection
Temporarily deactivate security and firewall plugins and try once more. If the error persists, ask your host whether the server is allowed to make outgoing HTTPS requests and whether a firewall is filtering them. Tools, Site Health often flags the same restriction.
- 6
Bring the add-on level with the theme
Once the license is active, update Neve Pro from the Plugins screen and Neve from Appearance, Themes. Take a backup first, and use a staging copy if the gap is large. An add-on that sat unlicensed for a year is a year behind the theme, and features that depend on both will not settle until the versions agree.
Keep it from coming back
- Keep the license in an account the business owns, with a shared mailbox as the login
- Deactivate the license on a staging copy before you delete the copy
- Put the renewal date in a calendar somebody actually reads
- After any domain or hosting move, check the license field the same day
The permanent fix
A faster Next.js build, with a CMS made for your business
A license is the price of renting features. If Pro modules run your header, your shop pages and your landing layouts, the site's behavior depends on an account, a renewal and a site count all staying in order, and each lapse arrives as a mystery. A Next.js build with a custom CMS has those features written into the site itself: no key to activate, no add-on to keep in step with a theme and pages served as static files whoever holds the logins.
| On Neve today | On Next.js with a custom CMS | |
|---|---|---|
| What you keep updated | WordPress, the theme, its builder and every bundled plugin, all in step | Nothing on a schedule. There is no theme or plugin stack to fall out of step |
| How a page is served | Built from the database on each visit, through the theme and its builder | Built ahead of time and served as finished files from servers near the visitor |
| How you edit it | A general-purpose builder with every option the theme ships | A CMS built around what your business actually changes: services, prices, photos, posts |
| What can break it | An update to any one of those parts, or a license that lapses | A change someone makes on purpose, tested before it goes live |
Your content, your addresses and your rankings come with you: every page is moved, every old address is redirected, and you get a login to an editor that only shows what you need. A repair is still the right call for many sites, and we will say so when it is.

Frequently asked
Not usually on the day. Updates and support stop first, and access to premium starter sites goes with them. Features already set up generally keep running, but the add-on stops keeping pace with the free theme, and that widening gap is what eventually breaks things. Your Themeisle account states the exact terms for your plan.
Because the activation was recorded against the old address. On the new one the add-on sees a key that is not active here. Release the old address in the Themeisle account, then activate again on the new domain from the Neve dashboard.
That depends on the plan's site allowance and on how Themeisle counts staging addresses, which is worth confirming with them for your plan. The safe habit is to treat every copy as a possible activation and to release it when the copy is deleted.
Ask for a handover first: either the account itself or a transfer of the license, if Themeisle permits one for that purchase. If that fails, buy a license in an account the business owns and activate it in place of the old one. It is the only version of this problem that stays fixed.
