Bridge fix
Bridge Bundled Plugins Won't Update or Ask for a License?
WPBakery wants to be activated. Slider Revolution says to register. The Plugins screen shows an update that fails when you click it. This does not mean your site is unlicensed. The plugins that came with Bridge are covered by Qode's license, and they update by a different road from everything else in your dashboard.
What you are seeing
- A notice asks you to activate WPBakery Page Builder to get updates
- Slider Revolution marks templates and add-ons as locked until you register
- Clicking Update on a bundled plugin ends in an error or does nothing
- The installed version is far older than the one on the plugin's website
- Appearance, Install Plugins is missing from the menu
Why it happens on Bridge
Most common first.
- 1
The license belongs to the theme author
Qode holds the license that lets it ship WPBakery, Slider Revolution, LayerSlider and Timetable inside Bridge. That covers your use of them with the theme. It does not give you a personal purchase code, so the plugin's own activation screen has nothing to accept and its direct updater stays off.
- 2
New plugin versions ride inside theme releases
A bundled plugin updates when Qode puts a newer copy into a Bridge release and you install that release. If the theme has not been updated, there is no newer copy on your server to install, whatever the Plugins screen says is available.
- 3
The theme's own update path is broken
Bridge updates come from ThemeForest, by manual download or through the Envato Market plugin and its personal token. Tokens get revoked, or belong to a developer who has left. The purchase code, meanwhile, sits in an email sent to someone who no longer works there. With no theme updates arriving, every bundled plugin stays frozen behind it.
- 4
The Install Plugins screen was never revisited
After a theme update, the new plugin copies wait under Appearance, Install Plugins until someone runs them. That menu item hides itself when Bridge believes everything is installed and current, so its absence usually means the theme itself is the old part.
- 5
Premium extras that were never part of the bundle
Slider Revolution's template library and add-ons, and comparable extras in the other bundled plugins, are reserved for people who hold a direct license. The locked panels are the plugin working as designed, not a fault on your site.
How to fix it, in order
Least invasive first. Stop at the step that fixes it.
- 1
Back up, then write down what is installed
Take a full backup. On the Plugins screen, note the versions of Bridge Core, WPBakery Page Builder, Slider Revolution and LayerSlider. Under Appearance, Themes, note the Bridge version. Export your sliders from inside each slider plugin so you hold a copy outside the database.
- 2
Confirm you can download Bridge
Log in to the ThemeForest account that bought the theme and look for Bridge under Downloads. The same page gives you the purchase code. If the account is not yours and cannot be recovered, a new Bridge license in the business's name is the legitimate way back to updates.
- 3
Update the theme first
Either connect the Envato Market plugin with a fresh token and update Bridge from its screen, or download the installable WordPress file and upload it under Appearance, Themes, Add New, Upload Theme. Do this on a staging copy if the jump between versions is large.
- 4
Run the updates under Appearance, Install Plugins
With the new theme active, open Appearance, Install Plugins. Bridge Core and any bundled plugin with a newer copy show an update link. Update Bridge Core first, then the builder, then the sliders, checking a page between each.
- 5
Reinstall a plugin that will not take the update
If the update link fails, deactivate and delete that one plugin, then install it again from the same screen. Pages built in WPBakery stay in your content. Sliders normally remain in the database as well, and the export from the first step is the insurance if they do not.
- 6
Decide whether you need a direct license
If you want plugin updates on the day they are released, or the locked templates and add-ons, buy your own license from the plugin's maker and enter it on that plugin's activation screen. If not, dismiss the notices. They are offers, not errors.
Keep it from coming back
- Keep the ThemeForest login and purchase code in the business's own records
- Update Bridge on a schedule, since every bundled plugin waits on it
- Visit Appearance, Install Plugins after each theme update
- Deactivate and remove the bundled plugins the site does not use
The permanent fix
A faster Next.js build, with a CMS made for your business
If the license cannot be found, the theme is years behind and the builder is frozen along with it, you are maintaining a supply chain more than a website. Buying Bridge again fixes that for now. A Next.js build with a custom CMS removes the chain: no bundled plugins, no purchase codes and nothing that waits on a theme author before a security fix can land.
| On Bridge today | On Next.js with a custom CMS | |
|---|---|---|
| What you keep updated | WordPress, the theme, its builder and every bundled plugin, all in step | Nothing on a schedule. There is no theme or plugin stack to fall out of step |
| How a page is served | Built from the database on each visit, through the theme and its builder | Built ahead of time and served as finished files from servers near the visitor |
| How you edit it | A general-purpose builder with every option the theme ships | A CMS built around what your business actually changes: services, prices, photos, posts |
| What can break it | An update to any one of those parts, or a license that lapses | A change someone makes on purpose, tested before it goes live |
Your content, your addresses and your rankings come with you: every page is moved, every old address is redirected, and you get a login to an editor that only shows what you need. A repair is still the right call for many sites, and we will say so when it is.

Frequently asked
No. The bundled copy is licensed for use with the theme and keeps working. A separate license buys direct updates, the plugin maker's support and its premium extras. It is a convenience and sometimes a security decision, not a requirement.
The notice itself, yes. What you should not ignore is the version number. If the bundled slider is well behind the current release, update Bridge so the newer copy arrives, because older slider releases have had publicly disclosed security flaws.
After the theme author ships them. When a bundled plugin releases a fix, Qode has to package it into a Bridge update and you have to install that update. The delay is the cost of the bundle. A direct license removes it for that one plugin.
In the ThemeForest account that bought the theme. Open Downloads, find Bridge and use the download menu's license certificate and purchase code option. If a developer bought the theme, the code is in the developer's account, and asking for it is the first step.
