A store owner's comparison
Webflow vs Shopify in 2026: Which One Should Run Your Online Store
One platform was built by people who love type and motion. The other was built by people who love inventory counts and tax tables. Both now sell things online, and the right one depends less on taste than on how many products you carry and how you sell them.

The short answer
Shopify is the better choice for most online stores: unlimited products, up to 2,048 variants each, point of sale, subscriptions and thousands of apps, from $29 a month as of October 2026. Webflow ecommerce wins for design-led brands with a small catalog, since every plan allows a custom checkout design, but Standard caps the store at 500 items and adds a 2% fee.

Two platforms that start from opposite ends of the store
Shopify began as a store and learned to build websites. Webflow began as a website builder and learned to run a store. That origin story still explains almost every row in the comparison below. Shopify's strengths sit behind the checkout: payments, inventory across locations, point of sale, wholesale catalogs, and an app for nearly any operational chore. Webflow's strengths sit in front of it: a visual designer that controls every element, a real content system, and a checkout page you can style to match the rest of the brand.
So the useful question is not which platform is better. It is which half of the business is harder for you. A candle maker with twelve scents and a beautiful story has a design problem. A parts distributor with four thousand SKUs and three warehouses has an operations problem. Pick the platform that solves the hard half, and the easy half will be fine on either. We have written a broader WordPress, Shopify and Webflow comparison for businesses that do not sell products at all; this page is for people who do.

Shopify vs Webflow on price, fees and limits, as of October 2026
Every figure below comes from shopify.com, webflow.com or the two companies' help and developer documentation, read in October 2026. Prices are in US dollars per month, billed yearly unless noted. Plans change often, so check both pricing pages before you sign anything.
| Shopify | Webflow Ecommerce | |
|---|---|---|
| Entry plan | Basic: $29 billed yearly, $39 billed monthly | Standard: $29 billed yearly, $42 billed monthly |
| Middle plans | Grow $89 ($105 monthly); Advanced $359 ($399 monthly) | Plus $74 ($84 monthly); Advanced $212 ($235 monthly) |
| Top tier | Plus, from $2,300 a month | Advanced is the top published ecommerce plan |
| Platform transaction fee | None with Shopify Payments; 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced, 0.2% on Plus with a third-party processor | 2% on Standard; 0% on Plus and Advanced |
| Card processing | Shopify Payments: 2.9% + 30 cents online on Basic, falling to 2.5% + 30 cents on Advanced | Charged separately by Stripe or PayPal; Stripe's standard US online rate is 2.9% + 30 cents |
| Ways to pay | Shopify Payments or a third-party provider | Stripe, PayPal, Apple Pay and Google Pay |
| Product limit | Unlimited products on every plan | 500, 5,000 or 15,000 items, and products, variants and categories all count |
| Variants | Up to 2,048 per product (raised from 100 in October 2025) | Each variant uses one item from the plan's allowance |
| Sales volume cap | None listed | None; Webflow lists unlimited sales volume on all three plans |
| Staff accounts | None extra on Basic; 5 on Grow, 15 on Advanced, unlimited on Plus | 3 on Standard, 10 on Plus, 15 on Advanced |
| Checkout customization | Listed as limited below Plus; checkout UI extensions on the information, shipping and payment steps are Plus only | Checkout and cart page design fully customizable on every ecommerce plan |
| Apps and integrations | Thousands of apps in the Shopify App Store | Built-in Meta, Google Shopping and Mailchimp connections, Zapier, an apps marketplace and custom code |
| Content system | Pages and a blog, arranged in the theme editor | Full CMS: 2,000 items on Standard, up to 10,000 on Plus and Advanced, separate from the store's item limit |
| Design control | Themes from the Theme Store, sections in the editor, Liquid code beyond that | Visual control of every element, plus interactions and animations |
| SEO controls | Titles, descriptions, handles, automatic sitemap, robots.txt by template; fixed /products and /collections paths; up to 100,000 redirects | Metadata control, 301 redirects, automatic sitemap, schema markup support, Open Graph tags |
| Customer accounts | Built in | Webflow's ecommerce feature page lists customer accounts and order history as coming soon |
| In-person sales | POS on every plan; POS Pro is $89 a month per location | No point of sale listed |
| Subscriptions | Shopify Subscriptions app from the App Store | Not listed in the ecommerce plans |
| Wholesale | Up to 3 B2B catalogs, unlimited on Plus | Not listed |
| Trying it | 3 days free, then $1 a month for 3 months | Free Starter plan for building; publishing a store needs a paid plan |
Two rows deserve a second look. Webflow's item count includes every variant, so a T-shirt in five sizes and four colors can use twenty or more of the 500 items on Standard. And Shopify's "no transaction fee" applies only when you use Shopify Payments; bring your own processor and a percentage returns. If the product data or the platform choice still feels uncertain, our e-commerce development team can model your catalog on both before you commit.
What a $10,000 month actually costs on each
Take a hypothetical shop selling $10,000 a month online in 200 orders of $50, paid by US cards. The card rates are the published standard rates as of October 2026; your own mix of cards, wallets and refunds will move the numbers a little, but not the order.
- Shopify Basic with Shopify Payments: $29 plan, plus 2.9% and 30 cents on each order ($350). About $379 a month.
- Shopify Grow with Shopify Payments: $89 plan, plus 2.7% and 30 cents ($330). About $419 a month, worth it once you need staff accounts.
- Webflow Standard with Stripe: $29 plan, plus Webflow's 2% ($200), plus Stripe's 2.9% and 30 cents ($350). About $579 a month.
- Webflow Plus with Stripe: $74 plan, no Webflow fee, plus Stripe's $350. About $424 a month.
Apps change this math more than the plans do. A Shopify store with six paid apps can spend more on apps than on Shopify. A Webflow store that needs subscriptions, reviews and shipping labels will pay for outside services and Zapier tasks to stitch them in. Price the whole stack, not the plan.
Webflow ecommerce vs Shopify when the catalog grows
Most Webflow store owners who move to Shopify do it for the same reason: the catalog outgrew the house. Webflow's limits are generous for a studio selling prints and painful for a retailer with real variant depth. Shopify's ceiling is so high that most small stores never touch it.
Signs the store has outgrown Webflow
- Variants are eating the item allowance faster than new products are
- Customers ask for an account to see past orders and reorder
- You want to sell at a market, a pop-up or a shop counter from the same inventory
- Subscriptions, wholesale pricing or bundles need workarounds
- Three or more outside tools are glued together with Zapier
Signs Shopify is fighting you
- The theme cannot carry the brand without a pile of custom Liquid
- Editorial content matters as much as products and the blog feels bolted on
- You want URLs without /products and /collections in them
- Checkout styling matters and Plus is not in the budget
- Apps are adding scripts to every page and the store keeps getting slower
Shopify also reaches further into AI shopping. Microsoft says Shopify merchants were enrolled automatically, with an opt-out, when Copilot Checkout launched on January 8, 2026, and Google built its Universal Commerce Protocol with Shopify among the partners. Shopify even lists a $0 Agentic plan for selling only through AI channels. Webflow's route to shopping surfaces runs through its Google Shopping and Meta catalog connections. The practical side of this is on GEO for Shopify stores, and you can see what ChatGPT and others say about your store today with the free AI visibility check.
Design, checkout and search controls compared
Webflow gives a designer something Shopify reserves for its most expensive plan: control of the checkout page. On every Webflow ecommerce plan, the cart and checkout can be laid out and styled like any other page. On Shopify, checkout is a hosted flow you brand within limits, and Shopify's developer documentation says checkout UI extensions on the information, shipping and payment steps are available only on Plus. That is not all bad. Shopify's checkout is fast, familiar and trusted by shoppers who have seen it a thousand times.
For search, both platforms serve product text in the page HTML, which matters because many AI crawlers do not run JavaScript. The differences are in the plumbing. Shopify fixes product and collection URLs under /products and /collections, and its help center says those paths cannot be used as redirect sources. Its sitemap is generated automatically, and robots.txt can be edited only by adding a robots.txt.liquid template, which Shopify calls an unsupported customization. Webflow offers metadata control, 301 redirects, an automatic sitemap and schema markup support on its plans. Either platform can rank; neither will do the content work for you, and a store missing from Google usually has a fixable cause, as our guide to a Shopify store not showing in Google explains.
Speed is a wash at launch and a choice afterward. Shopify stores slow down app by app, because many apps add scripts to every page. Webflow sites slow down animation by animation. Either way, Core Web Vitals work is cheaper as a habit than as a rescue.
The verdict by store type
Catalog retailer, hundreds of SKUs
Shopify. Unlimited products, deep variants, inventory by location and an app for each chore. A Shopify store design built on a good theme is usually the right start.
Design-led brand, under 50 products
Webflow Plus. The catalog fits, the checkout matches the brand, and the CMS carries the story. Skip Standard once sales pass about $2,250 a month.
Shop with a counter or market stall
Shopify. Point of sale on every plan, one inventory for online and in person, and POS Pro when the counter becomes a real store.
Digital goods: fonts, presets, courses
Webflow handles digital downloads well for a small range. Choose Shopify if buyers need accounts to find past purchases, or if you sell subscriptions.
Wholesale alongside retail
Shopify, which lists up to three B2B catalogs on its standard plans. Webflow's ecommerce plans list no wholesale features.
Marketing site with a merch shelf
Webflow for the site, and Shopify's Buy Button, which Shopify includes on all plans for selling on non-Shopify websites, if the shelf needs real fulfillment.
When neither fits: a custom Next.js store
Some stores do not belong on either platform's template. Products with configurators, quote-based pricing, dealer portals, custom approval flows or deep ties to an ERP push Shopify into expensive custom work and push Webflow past its ceiling. For those, a custom store in Next.js, sometimes with Shopify running underneath as a headless commerce engine, gives full control of URLs, checkout flow and content. The tradeoffs are laid out in headless vs traditional e-commerce and Shopify versus a custom website.
DataCram builds those stores at a fixed price starting at $3,500 for sites with a store, portal or web app, quoted after a free audit or the free mockup; the web design pricing page shows how scope is set, and e-commerce financing spreads the cost. Every custom site includes Athena CMS, so the team edits products, pages and offers without a developer. We will also tell you when a Shopify theme is the better buy, which is often.
Moving between Webflow and Shopify without losing rankings
Switching platforms is mostly a URL problem wearing a design costume. Search rankings move only if every old address points to its new home.
- 1
Export everything with its URL
Products, variants, collections, pages and blog posts, each with its current address, title and description.
- 2
Map old addresses to new ones
Moving to Shopify means product URLs land under /products and categories under /collections, so almost every store address changes. Write the map before you build.
- 3
Rebuild on a preview
Build the new store while the old one keeps selling, and compare page by page.
- 4
Launch with 301 redirects
Load every redirect on launch day, then watch Search Console and Merchant Center for errors over the following weeks.
Our website migration service does this routinely, and e-commerce website design covers the store build itself. When the new store is live, Shopify marketing is where buyers come from.
Questions owners ask us about AI search
At the entry level they cost the same, $29 a month billed yearly as of October 2026. After that Shopify usually costs less to sell through, because Webflow Standard adds a 2% fee on top of Stripe or PayPal processing. Webflow Plus at $74 removes that fee and undercuts Shopify Grow at $89. Apps and outside services often decide the real total.
For a small catalog, yes. Webflow sells physical and digital products, takes Stripe, PayPal, Apple Pay and Google Pay, calculates tax and lets you design the checkout. It falls short on catalog size (500 to 15,000 items, variants included), point of sale, wholesale and subscriptions, and its feature page still lists customer accounts as coming soon.
Neither wins on the platform alone. Both serve HTML that search engines and AI crawlers can read, both create sitemaps and allow 301 redirects. Webflow gives freer URL structure; Shopify fixes product and collection paths. Rankings come from content, product data, speed and links, which you control on either. Our e-commerce development work starts there.
Yes. Shopify's Buy Button channel is included on all Shopify plans and embeds products and checkout on a non-Shopify website, so a Webflow site can sell a few items through Shopify. For a bigger catalog, a headless build with Shopify underneath and a custom front end is cleaner, though it costs more.
Webflow, if the brand and the content are the selling point and you do not need point of sale, subscriptions or customer accounts. Choose the Plus plan once monthly sales pass about $2,250 so the 2% fee stops costing more than the upgrade. Choose Shopify if the 20 products have many variants or you sell in person.
Move when the item limit, missing customer accounts, point of sale or wholesale needs are costing you sales or hours each week. Do not move only because Shopify is bigger. If you do move, map every old URL to its Shopify address and load 301 redirects at launch, because almost every product address will change.
