Wix Site Not Showing in Google
Shopify, Squarespace & Hosting
The site is live, and Google is still pretending it isn't.
Searching your business name returns social profiles but not your site. site:yourdomain.com returns nothing or only the homepage, weeks after publishing.
What it actually means
Wix had a poor SEO reputation years ago that it has largely earned its way out of — the platform now generates proper sitemaps, allows meta control, and renders in a way search engines handle fine. Most sites that do not rank are not being held back by Wix.
What holds them back is more ordinary. The site was never actually published. Pages are hidden from search in settings. The domain is not connected, so the free wixsite.com address is what exists. Or there simply is not enough content for anything to rank on.
What usually causes it
Most likely first.
- 1
The site was never published
Edits are saved but not published, so the live site is empty or absent. More common than anyone admits.
- 2
Pages hidden from search in SEO settings
Wix offers a per-page toggle to hide from search engines, easy to leave on after building.
- 3
Running on the free wixsite.com address
Without a connected custom domain, you are ranking a subdomain of someone else's site.
- 4
Thin content
A handful of pages with a few lines each. Nothing substantial enough to rank for anything competitive.
- 5
No Search Console verification
Nothing submitted, no sitemap, no indexing requests, and few links pointing in.
How to fix it
Work through these in order. Take a backup before you change anything.
Step 1 — Confirm the site is published
Open your live URL in a private window. If it does not look like what you built, publishing is the whole problem.
Step 2 — Check per-page SEO settings
In each page's SEO panel, make sure “Let search engines find this page” is enabled. Check every important page, not just the homepage.
Step 3 — Connect your custom domain
Ranking a wixsite.com subdomain is a losing position. Connect and set your real domain as primary.
Step 4 — Use the Wix SEO tools and Search Console
Wix's SEO Setup Checklist verifies the site and submits the sitemap in a few clicks. Then request indexing on key pages.
Step 5 — Add real content
Write genuine service and location pages with substance. Thin sites do not rank regardless of platform.
When to stop and call someone
Call someone if the settings are all correct and the site remains invisible after a month, or if you are competing in a market where content and authority decide the outcome — at that point the platform is not your constraint, the strategy is.
Frequently asked
The usual causes are a site that was built but never published, pages hidden from search in Wix's per-page SEO settings, running on a free wixsite.com address instead of a custom domain, or simply not enough content to rank on.
Not any more. Wix generates proper sitemaps, allows full meta control, and renders in a way search engines handle without difficulty. Its old reputation is outdated — most Wix sites that fail to rank are held back by settings or content, not the platform.
Use the built-in SEO Setup Checklist, which verifies your site with Google Search Console and submits your sitemap in a few clicks. After that, use URL Inspection in Search Console to request indexing for your most important pages.
For any business, yes. A free wixsite.com address is a subdomain of someone else's site, which limits your authority and looks unprofessional to customers. Connecting your own domain is one of the highest-value changes you can make.
Typically days to a few weeks after publishing and submitting a sitemap. If nothing is indexed after a month, the cause is a blocking setting or a site with too little content rather than ordinary delay.
