Pet Supply Website Design: An Online Store Built for the Reorder
Sunday, 6 p.m., the bag is nearly empty and the dog is watching. The owner opens your site, taps 'order again', picks local delivery or pickup, and is done in under a minute. Or the site makes her search, log in twice and guess at shipping, and she orders from someone else.

The short answer
A pet supply website should make reordering effortless, run autoship with clear terms and an easy cancel, offer local delivery or pickup, book grooming or self-wash, and present food and flea products exactly as their labels do. DataCram builds custom pet supply stores for a fixed fee starting at $3,500; Athena CMS comes with every one, and 0% financing is on offer.

A pet store site lives on the reorder button
Most retail sites are built to win a first purchase. A pet store site is built to win the fortieth. Food, litter and flea prevention run out on a schedule, and the store that makes the repeat order easiest gives the household the fewest reasons to leave. The design follows from that.
Reorder in two taps
Order history front and center on a signed-in home page, with the last bag one tap from the cart.
Autoship the customer controls
Choose the interval, skip a shipment, change the flavor, or cancel online without calling anyone.
Local delivery and pickup
Delivery by zip code with a clear cutoff time, and curbside or in-store pickup for the bag needed tonight.
Book the tub or the groomer
Self-wash slots, grooming and nail trims booked online, with prices and what to bring shown before the customer commits.
Find the right product by pet
Shop by species, life stage and weight, so a flea treatment for a small dog never lands in a cart meant for a cat.
The pet shop page list, from food finder to self-wash booking
This is the page and feature set we plan from. A neighborhood shop might use half of it at launch; a store that ships across the country will use most of it.
| Page or feature | What it solves | What goes on it |
|---|---|---|
| Pet profiles | Products depend on species, age and weight. | Saved pets with weight and diet, used to filter products and set reminder timing. |
| Food product pages | Owners compare formulas line by line. | Life stage, ingredient list as printed on the label, bag sizes and prices, stock by store. |
| Flea, tick and health aisle | Getting the wrong weight range or species is a safety problem. | Species and weight ranges copied from the label, with the label's warnings shown, not paraphrased. |
| Autoship and subscriptions | Repeat orders are the business. | Interval choice, skip and pause, reminder emails, and an online cancel button. |
| Delivery and pickup pages | Local convenience is where an independent store beats a national one. | Delivery zones by zip code, cutoff times, fees and pickup instructions. |
| Service booking | Grooming and self-wash bring customers through the door every few weeks. | Online calendar, prices, policies for late arrivals and vaccination requirements if you set them. |
| Raw and frozen section | A specialty that sets an independent shop apart. | Brands, sizes, handling and thawing guidance from the manufacturer, and real-time stock. |
| Returns and policies | Opened food and chewed toys raise questions. | Plain rules, marked up with MerchantReturnPolicy so Google reads them correctly. |
Booking calendars and subscription logic add work beyond a standard catalog, and the web design pricing page lists sites with online booking at about $9,000. Our e-commerce development service builds the store; the e-commerce website design page covers retail builds in general.
Food claims, flea labels and autoship terms, each where it belongs
Pet supplies sit under FDA, EPA and FTC rules, and the website is where those rules meet customers. We set up templates so the right facts appear in the right place and risky wording has nowhere to sit.
Built into the templates
- Food pages pull the product name, net quantity, manufacturer and ingredient list (in descending order by weight) straight from product data, matching what FDA requires on the label.
- Spot-on flea and tick products, which EPA regulates as pesticides, show species and weight range from the label, with a dog-only warning where the label carries one.
- Autoship sign-up states what ships, how often and at what price, records consent, and links to an online cancel.
- Review widgets show verified reviews in full, in line with the FTC's ban on fake reviews and review suppression.
Kept off the site
- Disease claims (cure, treat, prevent, mitigate), which FDA says can make a pet food an unapproved new animal drug.
- Health claims a manufacturer has not substantiated, such as urinary tract claims without supporting data.
- Pharmacy badges you have not earned; NABP grants Digital Pharmacy Accreditation only to pharmacies licensed in every jurisdiction they serve.
- Influencer content without a disclosure of the payment or free product behind it.
Subscriptions get extra attention. A federal appeals court threw out the FTC's 2024 click-to-cancel rule and the agency began a fresh rulemaking in March 2026, yet older law (ROSCA and the FTC's existing Negative Option Rule) still governs every recurring charge. Hence a cancel button customers can actually find.
Readable with one hand, a leash in the other
Pet owners shop on phones in odd moments: on a walk, in the car outside the vet, at night after noticing the bag is low. Every design decision assumes that.
- Reorder, cart and store hours reachable with a thumb from every page.
- Pages served as HTML by Next.js, so product facts appear at once even on a weak connection.
- Images compressed and sized per device, so a page of litter options does not crawl.
- Large, high-contrast type for label details like weight ranges, which matter more than any banner.
- Spanish versions and accessibility checks drafted by Athena's Harmonia agent where your customers need them, plus an accessibility review if you want one.
We check Core Web Vitals before launch. If a later feature or app slows the store down, our site speed service finds the cause.
So Google, ChatGPT and Alexa can match the exact formula
A shopping assistant answering 'grain-free salmon formula for a senior dog, in stock near me' needs facts it can read: formula name, life stage, bag size, price, availability. We put those facts in the page HTML with Product and Offer markup, as Google recommends for merchant listings, and generate the Google Merchant Center feed, a Microsoft Merchant Center feed and a local inventory feed from the same catalog. Many AI crawlers do not run JavaScript, so nothing important waits on a script.
The site is the base. Showing up when ChatGPT, Gemini or AI Mode answers a shopper also depends on listings, reviews and mentions, which our GEO page for pet supply stores covers in full, along with the claim rules that matter when an engine repeats your copy.
Athena CMS and the agents that suit a pet shop
Athena CMS comes with every custom site we build. Staff change products, services and hours through simple forms, preview the result, and can roll back any version. Its AI agents draft; your staff approve. For a pet store, the useful ones are these.
- 1.Hestia keeps hours, phone, address and services identical across the site and listings, holiday hours included.
- 2.Echo drafts replies to Google, Yelp and Facebook reviews, flags unhappy ones first, and places matching review quotes on product and service pages.
- 3.Prometheus spots customer questions the site never answers, such as switching foods gradually, and drafts the page for review.
- 4.Iris drafts the title, meta description, social card and structured data each time a product is added.
- 5.Delphi puts questions to ChatGPT and Google's AI features about the store, flags wrong hours or claims, and reports weekly.

What it costs to build, and how a mockup becomes a store
Pricing is fixed and published. A custom site or rebuild starts at $1,750; a site with an online store starts at $3,500; adding online booking, as for grooming or self-wash, brings a site to about $9,000. You get the quote after a free audit or mockup, and it holds once agreed. With 0% website financing you put 25% down and spread the rest over 12 months for any project, 24 once it reaches $15,000, or 36 from $20,000 up; on a $9,000 build that means $2,250 at signing, then $562.50 monthly for twelve months. After launch, a hosting and maintenance plan keeps it current.

Products, pet filters, feeds and markup go in, imported from your current store or point of sale where possible.
- 4
Your staff test it
Reorder, autoship, booking and editing in Athena are tried by the people who will use them every day.

We launch without losing search
Old URLs redirect to the new pages so rankings and bookmarks survive, and we watch for errors in the first weeks.
If you sell twenty products, a template may do
Not every pet business needs a custom store. A shop that mainly needs hours, services and a map can live happily on Squarespace or Wix. A small online catalog with no delivery zones, no booking and no autoship fits a good Shopify theme, and our Shopify versus custom guide says so plainly. Custom pays off when the site has to handle pet profiles, local delivery, subscriptions you control, grooming bookings and a catalog with label-level detail all at once.
Before you decide, request the free mockup: a home page designed for your store, delivered at no charge, with the decision left to you. For bringing in customers once the store is live, see pet supply marketing. Groomers, sitters and boarders can see our pet care industry page, and every trade we build for is under website design by industry.
Questions owners ask before a new website
Fixed-price custom sites begin at $1,750, and a site with an online store starts at $3,500. Adding online booking for grooming or self-wash brings a site to about $9,000. Financing is 0% with 25% down over up to 12 months, longer for larger projects, and every quote follows a free audit or mockup.
Yes. Customers choose the interval, skip or pause shipments, change products and cancel online. Sign-up shows what ships, how often and the price, and records consent, because the Negative Option Rule and ROSCA still apply to recurring charges. Your counsel reviews the terms before launch.
Only within pharmacy law, which is your pharmacy counsel's call, not ours. NABP accredits online pharmacies, pet medication sellers included, only when they hold active licenses wherever they serve customers. Another route is linking to a licensed pharmacy partner; we build either setup once your counsel approves it.
Yes. We build a booking calendar with your services, prices, durations and policies, and it can send reminders. A site with online booking is about $9,000 on our pricing page, and it can be added later to a store we have already built.
The site produces what those systems need: Product markup in the HTML, a Google Merchant Center feed, a Microsoft Merchant Center feed and a local inventory feed. Display is never guaranteed, and being named in AI answers also depends on listings, reviews and mentions. Our SEO programs handle that ongoing work.
Yes. We import products, images and URLs, move customer accounts where the platforms allow, and redirect old addresses to new pages so rankings and bookmarks carry over. Autoship subscriptions need careful planning during a move, so we map them before we start.
