Case Study: SA Web Development
← Our work

Our sister studio · A DataCram build

A web studio that looks like 1998 and sells like this year.

SA Web Development is our San Antonio sister studio. In a market where every agency site is the same gray gradient and the same stock handshake, we built one nobody forgets: the whole site runs as a late-’90s Windows desktop, and every piece of the joke does a job.

Memorable is a feature. So is getting to the phone number.

Web design agencies have a sameness problem. Visit five and you will see one hero, one promise about solutions and one photo of people pointing at a laptop. A prospect who compares five of them remembers none of them.

So the brief for SA Web Development was simple: be the one they remember, then be the one that gets them to call. The Windows desktop handles the first job. The second is handled by everything underneath it: a free plan offered on every screen, a phone number in the header and the taskbar, pages that load before the visitor blinks, and a wizard that asks what to fix first instead of asking for an email.

Every piece of the old desktop has a job

A program window

Every page. Each opens as its own window with a name, CALC.EXE for the cost calculator, Store Demo.exe for the shop.

Folders

The service catalog. Websites, Software, Mobile Apps, SEO, Paid Ads, Social Media and Growth & Tools, eight or nine items each.

A setup wizard

The lead form. Three steps, starting with what to fix first, tuned to each town and trade.

An inbox

The Growth Lab guides, listed like unread mail with a read time.

Network Neighborhood

The service-area pages: San Antonio, the Hill Country towns and cities nationwide.

The taskbar

Start, Call and Free Quote, pinned to the bottom of every screen, on phones too, with a live clock.

A scrolling ticker

The promises: replies within four business hours, reports in plain English, built in San Antonio.

A pop-up window

A small Free Quote window that offers a plan in thirty seconds, with its reply time in the title bar.

Design style

Retro on the surface, built to modern rules underneath.

Teal desktop #008080

The wallpaper every 1998 office computer shipped with, used as the page background.

Silver chrome #C0C0C0

Beveled window frames, buttons and the taskbar, with hard light and shadow edges.

Navy #000080 headlines

Navy-to-blue title bars and navy display type, set in Chakra Petch.

Yellow #FFD400 calls to action

The one warm color on the screen, reserved for Free Plan, Free Quote and Next.

VT323 pixel labels

Terminal-style kickers above each headline, like a monitor from the era.

Tahoma interface text

Menus, status bars and fine print in the system font of the time.

Address bars and menus

C:\SAWEBDEV breadcrumbs and File, Edit, View, Help on every window.

Modern underneath

Responsive layouts, readable body type and accessible contrast, so the joke never costs a lead.
