Case study · A DataCram build

You have two minutes. Build something real.

PlayBrixel is a two-minute creative game: the Architect hands you one small thing to build on a 3D grid, and a clock that shrinks with every win. No account, no card — just you, a grid, and rising pressure. DataCram designed and built the whole thing.

playbrixel.com — build against the clock

A game you can finish before your coffee’s cold.

Most creative games ask for a real commitment — a tutorial, an account, an hour. The idea behind PlayBrixel was the opposite: could a game be genuinely creative and still over in two minutes? Land on the page and you’re already building. The Architect gives you a target, the clock starts, and the only question is how much you can make before time runs out.

The trick that makes it stick is the shrinking clock. Win, and the next brief is a little harder and the timer a little tighter. It turns a simple building toy into a tightening challenge — the kind of loop that quietly eats fifteen minutes when you thought you had two.

How it plays

A clock that keeps shrinking

The first round is generous. Every win sharpens the target and shaves the timer — down to a merciless thirty seconds.

The Architect sets the brief

Each round hands you one small thing to make — a red mushroom, a coffee mug, a little house — then judges what you built.

Real-time 3D building

Place, erase, and rotate voxels on a live grid that renders in the browser — no download, no plugin.

Brushes and a full palette

1×1 up to 2×4 block brushes and a wall of colors, so a quick build can still look like something.

Instant play

No account, no card. You land on the grid and the clock starts — friction removed from the very first second.

Most people surprise themselves

The escalating difficulty pulls more creativity out of players than they expect — the hook that keeps them coming back.

Under the hood

Built for speed and feel.

A real-time 3D game lives or dies on responsiveness. PlayBrixel is a Vite single-page app with a WebGL voxel engine, tuned so placing a block feels instant and the page loads before the clock can matter.
