About
From the porch to the dance hall
Dana Cram grew up two hours from the nearest record store and about ten minutes from three dance halls, which explains most of it. The first songs were written on a porch in the Hill Country to an audience of moths; the first shows were played to rooms that had come to two-step and stayed to listen.
Three records later the band is the same four people it started with, the van has a new transmission, and the songs still start on the porch. Static on the Radio was written between tour stops and finished at home, with the windows open, the way the first one was.
The live show is the point. It is loud in the way a dance hall is loud and quiet in the way a drive home is quiet, and it does not sound like the record, on purpose.
